Trauma and PTSD

Stressful events can leave indelible marks on our lives, making it arduous to rediscover our authentic selves. The daily struggle can feel insurmountable, leaving us jaded, distant, and burdened by loneliness, shame, or guilt. Simple tasks become monumental, and we yearn for release from the weight of our experiences. Yet, we soldier on, adjusting, enduring, and seeking a path forward.

First responders, too, grapple with the aftermath of their work, facing secondary trauma regularly. The constant vigilance, the edge of alertness, and the simmering anger take a toll. They long for moments of presence, to savor life with family, and to trust others without anticipating danger or betrayal. The desire to reclaim their true selves burns within.

Hope exists. You can emerge stronger, and more resilient. Reach out for the support you need.

Trauma-informed Counseling by Marie-Anne Abenroth

We all experience and cope differently with stress-related events. There is no clear-cut line defining what is perceived as traumatic or disturbing; it largely depends on our unique perception. Some of us exhibit greater resilience and find coping easier, while others struggle. There is no right or wrong response to stressful events; our reactions are automatic and not a matter of choice.

As a counselor, I offer an eclectic approach to exploring and reprocessing these responses and consequences related to stress. My practice is informed by trauma awareness and centered around the needs of each client. Additionally, I have received specialized training in EMDR, CPT, and mindfulness practices to better support individuals on their healing journey.
