Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) focuses on the relationship among thoughts, core beliefs, feelings, and behaviors. It notes how changes in any one pattern can improve functioning in the other patterns. It encourages patients to identify their core beliefs and re-evaluate their thinking patterns and assumptions to identify unhelpful patterns in thoughts, such as overgeneralizing, personalizing events, negative self-talk and always expecting catastrophic outcomes. The intention is to move from those to more balanced and effective thinking patterns by identifying, addressing, and challenging unhealthy thinking patterns towards helpful self-talk, without dismissing core beliefs or feelings and rather identify them as barriers to personal growth. CBT is focused on learning new coping skills and though patterns to move forward towards a more efficient way of coping with life and challenges.
CBT has been proven to be affective for a wide variety of struggles, including depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, marital problems, eating disorder and sever mental illness.
